Why choose our Olive Oil? It's the taste of course. Dip a piece of bread into our Olive Oil and be transported to the beautiful Greek island of Zakynthos.
Greece, generally, is a source of consistently high quality Olive Oil. Production volumes and quality can be relied upon from one year to the next.
The Olive Oil from Zakynthos is of a particularly superior quality being produced from the first cold pressing of olives and not mixed with other Olive Oils or any preservatives. The EU has granted this product a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).
Many of the brands you see in the supermarket, as well as the supermarket's own brands are commercially blended with virgin Olive Oils. These taste the same year in, year out, because they are blended to a particular style, but too often they have little flavour.
Single estate and single variety oils are much dearer retailing at up to £20 per litre but are far superior in quality. Generally, the consumer would stock up with a bottle of both styles: an expensive oil to use as a condiment, and a blended Olive Oil for everyday use.
Now there is no need to - our Olive Oil is a single variety Olive Oil, produced from the Koroneiki olive native to Zakynthos, available at blended Olive Oil prices.

Protected Geographical Indication (PGI)

In 1993 EU legislation came into force which provides for a system for the protection of food names on a geographical or traditional recipe basis (similar to the 'Appelation Controllee' system for wines).
For a product to receive a Protected Geographical Indication the product must be produced, processed or prepared in that geographical area. The product must be of a specific quality, reputation or have other characteristics attributable to that area alone and so different to similar products. Holders of a Protected Geographical Indication must demonstrate long term commitment to the maintenance of standards and marketing of the product.
Essentially, a PGI allows a customer to have total confidence in the quality, conformity and origin of each bottle of Olive Oil.
